About Polestar

Polestar sent out a press release on 21 June 2017, confirming its future as the performance electrification brand for the Volvo Car Group. Please find the full press release and sign up to stay tuned here.

Polestar is Volvo Car Group’s performance road car brand. The company was founded by Polestar Racing, known today as Cyan Racing. Polestar's birth was a result of Cyan Racing's race engineers' desire to explore how the technology behind the multiple title-winning success in racing could be applied to the performance of road going Volvo cars, on all roads and conditions in everyday life.

Owned by Christian Dahl and formerly named Polestar Racing, Cyan Racing handles all motorsport operations of Polestar as the official motorsport partner. With seven STCC drivers’ titles and eight STCC teams’ titles with the Volvo 850, S40, C30 and S60, Cyan Racing is one of the most successful Scandinavian teams ever.

Volvo Cars acquired Polestar Performance in 2015, starting the next chapter for Volvo performance cars. Today, Polestar builds the S60 and V60 Polestar, 367 hp performance road cars with over 250 developments over-and-above the standard Volvo models. We also offer Polestar Engineered performance hardware upgrades and engine software optimisations for Volvo cars.

More details will be confirmed in the autumn of 2017.

Please find the full collection of Polestar merchandise and lifestyle accessories here.

Electrified Polestar cars will only have Polestar badging. Polestar will also continue to develop optimised products for Volvo cars under the Polestar Engineered brand and these cars will carry both Volvo and Polestar logos, as they do today.

Engineered Cars

To verify that your car has the Engineered Optimisation installed or is a true Polestar Engineered Car, we need the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your car. You will find it in the registration documents of the car, or in the bottom right corner of the windshield. Please register the VIN number to proceed.

Your Polestar Certificate will be delivered to your postal address as soon as the installation has been verified in the Volvo Cars/Polestar system. Please note that this can take up to 5 weeks. For further questions please contact us.

Register your Optimised Volvo car or Polestar Engineered Car* to receive your official Polestar Certificate and become a part of the Polestar community. The Certificate verifies that this is a Polestar product and is a valuable document that we recommend you store together other official documentation for your car.

*valid for 2016 - MY17 only.

Engineered Optimisation

Yes, that can always be done. All Volvo Cars dealers have the ability to do this using the same system that initially supplied the Engineered Optimisation. However, customers are not refunded for the Engineered Optimisation and it is not transferable to another car.

Yes. Volvo's Flexifuel car models can be run on petrol and E85, ethanol, both in the original version and after an Engineered Optimisation. After the installation, E85 is recommended in order to achieve maximum performance from the engine. The car can also be run on petrol, 98 octane, but with slightly inferior performance as a result. 95 octane petrol is not recommended.

All our Engineered Optimisations are listed here on the website. You can choose by model or put in your Vehicle identification number (VIN) to get the answer straight away.

A Polestar Engineered Optimisation does not affect the car’s original speed inhibitor, which remains at the original level. The car’s original brakes and tyres are adapted for the car’s original maximum speed and thereby limit the car’s maximum speed even after an Engineered Optimisation of the engine. It´s illegal to remove the speed limiter.

To verify that your car has the Engineered Optimisation installed or is a true Polestar Engineered Car, we need the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your car. You will find it in the registration documents of the car, or in the bottom right corner of the windshield. Please register the VIN number to proceed.

We are very sorry that you could not find an Engineered Optimisation for your Volvo car. There are lots of parameters to take into consideration when upgrading. For instance, technical conditions to increase power output, certified fuel consumption and emission levels have to remain unchanged, to name a few.

Polestar and Volvo Cars are working to be able to provide optimisations for slightly older cars as well. However, there are certain difficult circumstances with these cars. Since all of Polestar's optimisations are certified by the authorities in the same way as the original car, this requires test cars that have been driven no more than 15 000 km before the certification process. With older cars, this is difficult to bring about.

The front/grill badges are only available for our Polestar Engineered Cars and our Racing cars.

No, if updates are installed to the software that was in your car in the original version, then these improvements will also be implemented together with your Engineered Optimisation. This means that you get all the improvements from Volvo Cars while the performance from your Engineered Optimisation remains.

Engineered Parts

Polestar Engineered Parts do not affect the car's original speed inhibitor, which remains at the original level. The car's original brakes and tyres are adapted for the car's original maximum speed and thereby limit the car's maximum speed even after Parts are installed.

Currently we do not have any plans to offer upgraded brakes.
